Travel: Venice, Italy 2007

I'm counting the days 'till I'm going to Cyprus and because I'm so excited then I started looking through all my travel-pictures last night. I desided to show some of them to you during this summer and maybe give you a few tips about some of the destinations. Who knows - maybe you're actually going to some of the places I've been this summer?

I'm gonna start out with Venice, Italy where I was in july 2007. It was extremly hot - that's why I bought the pretty umbrella to protect me a bit from the sun. We walk around in the VERY narrow streets of Venice - just to get the vibe of the city. It's very special and I think that people should at least go there once during their lives. We also went into the Saint Mark Basilica (the big church on the Saint Mark's Square). At first we weren't sure if we wanted to wait in line that long (the line was really, really long), but to our surprise it moved very fast so don't let that be the reason why you don't go in! We didn't wait in line more than 10 minutes. Remeber that you as a girl aren't allowed in the church if you're wearing a short skirt or tops without sleves/short sleves (I had a cardigan in my bag that I put on when we went in) - for guys it the same with the sleves. The church is really beautiful inside - especially the ceiling which is made of small golden mosaics. Remember to go up to the altar to see the actual tomb of Saint Mark the Evangelist (yeah, THAT Saint Mark that wrote a part of the Bible) - it costs like 2 euroes to get in there, but I think it's worth it.

After that we went to see/walk on the famous Rialto Bridge and from the bridge you have a great view over the Grand Canal (biggest canal in Venice). We didn't try any gondola-ride because they were really expensive. We asked one of the guys in one of them and he wanted 200 euroes for either half or an hour (don't remember).

I had a great time here in Venice and I recommend people going here! And one last tip: Don't eat or drink at any of the cafés on the actual St. Mark's Square - it's SO expensive. Go through the narrow streets instead and find a small cheaper place instead.
Have any of you been to Venice or are any of you going there soon?
